What is Digital pressure indicator calibration?
Digital pressure indicator calibration
A digital pressure indicator (DPI) is an electronic instrument that measures and displays pressure digitally, typically with higher accuracy and resolution than a mechanical gauge. Digital pressure indicators are commonly used as portable test instruments, as reference instruments for verifying other pressure devices, and in laboratory and process measurement applications. Calibration verifies the instrument’s reading accuracy and linearity against a traceable pressure reference.
Labcal provides UKAS-accredited calibration for digital pressure indicators used in test, measurement and process applications. Digital pressure indicators are frequently used as working standards and transfer instruments in pressure calibration rigs, so maintaining their traceable calibration is directly relevant to the accuracy of all downstream pressure measurements they support.

Common Questions
Questions about this calibration service
Straight answers to what quality managers and engineers ask most before sending instruments to Labcal.
What is digital pressure indicator calibration?
Digital pressure indicator calibration involves comparing the instrument’s displayed pressure readings against a traceable pressure reference standard at defined points across its working range. The calibration certificate records the indicated value, the reference value, the error and measurement uncertainty at each calibration point. For instruments used as working standards or transfer standards in pressure calibration, UKAS calibration is essential to maintain the traceability of all measurements that depend on them.
How is a digital pressure indicator different from a mechanical gauge?
A digital pressure indicator measures pressure using an electronic pressure sensor and displays the result numerically. Compared to a mechanical Bourdon tube gauge, digital indicators typically offer higher accuracy and resolution, better stability, and the ability to store readings or transmit data. Many digital pressure indicators have multiple pressure ranges selectable from a menu. They are commonly used as portable test standards and as reference instruments in calibration laboratories.
How often should a digital pressure indicator be calibrated?
For instruments used as test instruments or working standards, annual calibration is typical. High-accuracy reference instruments used in calibration laboratories may be calibrated more frequently, or checked against higher-order standards before and after critical calibration work. The calibration interval should be set by your quality management system based on the instrument’s role, accuracy requirements and historical drift behaviour.
Can Labcal calibrate multifunction pressure calibrators?
Yes. We can calibrate the pressure measurement functions of multifunction calibrators. If your instrument also includes electrical measurement functions (such as mA loop calibration or thermocouple simulation) that you require to be calibrated, contact us in advance to confirm whether those additional parameters are within our current scope of accreditation.
What measurement uncertainty can I expect for digital pressure indicator calibration?
Measurement uncertainty varies with pressure range, instrument type and the specific calibration points required. Labcal calculates and states the measurement uncertainty on each calibration certificate in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Before sending your instrument, you can contact us with the instrument specification and required calibration range, and we will advise on whether our measurement uncertainty is compatible with your accuracy requirements.
